Digital Product Passport (DPP)
DPP for electronics
I have worked together with eReuse and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) on DPP for electronic devices. Obsolete Electronic devices usually end up at big cemeteries in Africa causing a significant pollution problem. The DPP is a tool that fosters recycling, repairing and reusing, while increasing traceability.
Our prototype has shown how different actors such as manufacturer, repairer, refurbisher, recycler, … could capture and share information using the DeviceHub tool. We used Solidity Smart Contracts to anchor DPPs enhancing data verification and discovery.
DPP for Plastics
I have worked together with Digimarc on a project intended to demonstrate how the circular economy for plastics could be enhanced by DPPs. There is a growing pollution problem in agricultural facilities related to plastic consumption. However plastics can be recycled into bioplastics, and such a process is a complex one involving multiple stakeholders (farmers, waste managers, recyclers, manufacturers) that need to share data. We leveraged GS1 EPCIS 2.0 standards, decentralized identity and DLT timestamping.
Data exchange architectures
I have proposed an architecture and protocol that can enable trusted and sovereign data exchang in value chains, including DPP scenarios. It is based on the Eclipse Dataspace Protocol and the Activity Streams protocol of the Web. It endorses self-sovereign identity W3C standards such as Verifiable Credentials and Decentralized Identitifiers.
Intellectual Property Rights
In this project we have developed tools and applications that allow to transform legal contracts of the music industry (represented using Linked Data) into Smart Contracts, facilitating more transparent relationships and simpler payments among multiple stakeholders (publishers, authors, producers, composers, musicians, CMOs, etc,). The Smart Contract platform used was the Ethereum Virtual Machine with Solidity and the Smart Contracts for Media ISO standard.
